For Shopify brands, Klaviyo beats Mailchimp on ecommerce data, flows, and SMS, while Mailchimp is cheaper and simpler for basic newsletters. Both still require humans to build and maintain flows. Relvino replaces the flow stack entirely, deciding each shopper’s offer, timing, and channel in ~80ms, with a 30-minute migration from either.

If the only choice is between these two and the store is on Shopify, Klaviyo is the better tool. It syncs the catalog, orders, and browse and checkout events natively, so segments and flows can act on what a shopper actually did rather than on which list they landed in. SMS is native rather than bolted on. Mailchimp is genuinely better in two situations: budget is the binding constraint, or the requirement is a straightforward newsletter to a general audience rather than behavioral ecommerce automation.
That is the real trade, and it is worth saying plainly before the rest of this page: Klaviyo costs more and does much more for an ecommerce brand. Mailchimp costs less and does less.
Both platforms ask a marketer to be the decision engine. In Mailchimp the unit of work is a campaign somebody composes and schedules. In Klaviyo it is a flow somebody builds, filters, delays, caps, and then A/B tests for weeks. The tools differ in power. The paradigm is identical, and it is the paradigm that sets the ceiling.
Flows were the best available answer when a human had to define the logic in advance. A shopper abandoning a cart at 11pm is a 1:1 signal: this person, this cart, this moment. A flow answers it with a one-to-many rule written weeks earlier, on a fixed clock, usually with the same discount for everybody. That is why results plateau while headcount and send costs do not.
Relvino runs an autonomous loop instead: Observe, Decide, Act. It reads live browse, cart, and checkout signals and decides, for each shopper, the offer, the timing, and the channel in ~80ms, then executes across email, SMS, and on-site. There is no flow to build and no campaign calendar to fill.
Two things make that work on day one rather than after a learning period. The Large Retail Model is trained across 10K+ retailers and 7M+ data points covering 1.78M shoppers, so it already knows what converts in a given category before it has seen a single send from one store. On top of that sits a per-merchant reinforcement-learning policy that compounds every cycle instead of plateauing. A marketer sets guardrails, including margin floors, channels, and brand voice, and 100% of interventions then run without a human in the loop.
The economics move in the same direction. Because each decision is per shopper rather than per segment, the system sends fewer and more relevant messages: 80% less spam and lower send costs, against 2–6× ROI in 30 days. Brands replacing Klaviyo see up to 4× YoY revenue uplift, and brands replacing Mailchimp see 2×, with up to 10× YoY at the top end. Relvino is also 3–7× cheaper than Klaviyo – see pricing.
Migration is a 30-minute technical cutover. Existing cart, browse, and win-back flows do not get rebuilt, they get turned off. From there it is a 14-day pilot to prove the revenue side by side. Pause the incumbent, do not cancel it. The step-by-step is in migrate Klaviyo to Relvino, and how to replace Klaviyo on Shopify covers what changes operationally.
